About Civil War Reenacting
To become a reenactor you will need to learn about the war, and more importantly, about the soldiers themselves. You will have many questions - how do I get started? How much does it cost? what is the commitment to joining a regiment? Being a reenactor involves a whole new vocabulary as well . . . what is a slouch hat or a kepi? The 13th Texas Cavalry has provided this section of their website to help you, the beginning reenactor, to better understand what is involved in getting started in this hobby. Civil
War reenacting is an amazing hobby that combines love of history with
a sense of comaradarie no other hobby can match. There is a significant
cost to being a reenactor, and a commitment of time to learn the history
and participate in the events. You will find, however, that if you devote
the resources to becoming a reenactor that you will develop a profound
sense of appreciation for our country's history, make some wonderful
friends, and most importantly - have a great time!
