About the 13th Texas Dismounted Cavalry
Our regiment represents an actual regiment from the Civil War - visit The Original 13th page to learn more about the actual regiment. We also do a federal impression of the 2nd Texas Cavalry Regiment (U.S.), an actual regiment that served with Union forces during the war. The 13th Texas Cavalry is a family oriented organization. We welcome your spouses and kids in our camp and at our events, and you will find our activities offer a highly appropriate and wonderful environment for participants of all ages. Our group is open to people of all races, male and female, young and old. You will find that hatred and bigotry have no place in this organization. We pride ourselves on the diversity of the people in our ranks and throughout our organization. There is no political aspect to our group, nor are we affiliated with any organization that could be remotely associated with militias, political activist groups, or any other negative association. We take great pride in the positive, open and welcoming nature of our group! What Do We Do?So what does the 13th Texas Cavalry do? Throughout the year we participate in Civil War reenactments around Texas, including major reenactments in Jefferson and Liendo. We also take part in national events in other states - now that we're heading into the 150th anniversary of the Civil War, we expect to be part of major national events in Tennessee, Virginia and other states as well. We also take part in Living History days, where we set up a display with a tent and other displays at schools or other events, to teach students of all ages about life during the 1860s. We have our own activities as well, including a picnic during the summer and a Christmas party in December, where our members and their families get together and have a great time.
Part of a Larger OrganizationAs of January 1, 2011 The 13th Texas Cavalry became a proud part of The Trans-Mississippi Volunteer Infantry (TMVI) Battalion, an organization dedicated to the accurate portrayal of soldiers serving in the Western Theater of the War Between the States. The TMVI is an active organization that mirrors our values and desire to foster a greater understanding of and respect for the courageous soldiers who served on both sides of this crucial and historic conflict.
