Impression Guidelines
The 13th Texas portrays a Trans-Mississippi Cavalry unit During the
Civil War.
Our secondary (Federal) impression is the 2nd Texas Cavalry, one
of two Texas Cavalry Regiments in Federal Service during the war.
Confederate
Uniform:
Established members will strive to have the complete, time worn, Western
theatre Jean wool based uniform, as opposed to the "cookie cutter"
Gray wool eastern theatre clothing so commonly seen at events. This
uniform should include the following items:
- Jean wool or homespun cotton trousers, period correct in construction.
And suspenders.
- Federal issue sky blue trousers
- Western theatre depot, commutation or homespun jacket
- Homespun or issue type muslin shirt
- Slouch hat, kepi, bummer, or other period correct hat
- Boots or brogans, period correct style
- Federal issue leather gear, or russet leather, or a mixture of both,
including: cartridge box, cap pouch, holster, and other period correct
items as deemed nessecary
- Period correct canteen, with appropriate sling. Tarred, or canvas
haversack.
- Period correct military issue musket, ranging from 3 band muskets
to muzzle loading carbines. Also a limited number of period shotguns
may be allowed, but not at national events.
- Period correct side arm. Colt, Remington, and many other "
cap-n-ball" revolvers are available.
- Proper bedroll, and wet weather gear, must be period correct.
These items are not inexpensive, but keep in mind that you will have
time to acquire them. You will be given a year to get your kit together,
and we will from time to time have loaner gear available.
For
our Federal Impression, you'll need the following:
- Sky blue wool trousers, Federal issue pattern and suspenders
- Dark blue issue sack coat, or shell jacket, "Mounted Service
"pattern are really sharp looking
- Homespun or muslin issue shirt
- Slouch hat, kepi, or bummer, Federal blue on the Kepi/bummer Black
on the slouch hat
- Cavalry pattern boots, or brogans period correct style.
- Federal issue leather gear, including: Belt, cartridge box, cap
pouch, holster, other gear as necessary.
- Period correct canteen, tarred haversack
- Period correct military issue musket, as above
- Period correct side arm, as above.
If you're careful in your shopping, you will find that a lage part
of your geat can be used in both impressions. If you have any questions,
please as the nearest Officer or N.C.O. and they'll be glad to help.
Please do not go to the sutler to buy things without the benefit of
an experienced filemate, or officer from the 13th with you. This will
save you a lot of frustration, and money.
